This third edition of the strategic game developed by the Ensemble Studio's people jointly with Microsoft surprises with its high quality 3D graphics and the way playability is addressed. While respecting the gameplay - keeping the real time mode - new options have been added so as to complement the game.
Age of Empires III resumes history from the time of The Conquerors, at the beginnings of the Modern Age. This edition adds novel factors, such as the concept of the Metropolis or mother city, which is a kind of character in an RPG (Role Playing Game). Such city will progress, reaching upper levels, as we play. As we improve our metropolis, we can go there to fetch troups, resources, etc. Also alliances are allowed to be made with the natives belonging to the new world, and it is possible to manage two civilizations at the same time.
Graphically speaking, the game displays the most detailed texture ever seen in a strategy game. Every piece of field texture has been detailedly worked on.
By using the powerful physical Havok engine, a widely modifiable world has been achieved, where every object can be destroyed.
In this edition of the saga, you can be the leader of up to two of eight civilizations that will fight to gain the control of the whole world: Spanish, French, British, Portuguese, Dutch, German, Russian, Ottomans. Each civilization has particular features that make it stronger or weaker in different battlefields.
When playing against the AI, this adopts the features of leader of each nation, assuming the correspondent fighting modes, thus performing pretty well.
This game is rather difficult to master at the beginning and the system requirements are quite demanding, but the gameplay and excellent graphics make it worth-playing.
Advantages:

- Innovative but keeping the good features of the previous releases.
- A trial version can be downloaded to experience some of the features of the game.
Disadvantages:
- Some combat features are not as excellent as can be expected.
- Too high system requirements.
